While it's already tomorrow in Austria, let me echo Didi's wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all who log onto this site with any
degree of regularity.
Answering Didi's question about street drinking. With the exception of New Orleans, where you could take an open bottle of anything into church on a Sunday, I know of no other city here in the States that allows taking of an alcoholic beverage out of a bar. The fact that it's New Year's Eve doesn't make it legal to do so. Since it's about 5 hours until the clock strikes 12 here in HouTx (plus one second more in extra time), I've yet to begin to celebrate. Tonight will be a solo performance as my main squeeze is at sea on a cruise with her family. It's a bummer, but it allows me to drink a couple of martinis before I create a semi-gourmet meal for myself. I've chosen a California Pinot Grigio as a compliment to the main course and will follow it with another martini before I do espresso and Sambucco. BTW, the date shown on my posting is incorrect. It's still 12/31/08 where I'm at. It sure is a treat for me not to have to worry about too much imbibing as I'll be in my apartment for the evening.
