It seems as though everyone has an agenda in their attempt to come up with something other than the classic London Dry Gins, i.e. Beefeater, Bombay, et al. Whether the producer is attempting to make an environmentally friendly, an organically correct or a lo-cal gin, I wonder if it's any different than back in the 20's and 30's when bathtub gin was the rage. Perhaps it's simply the entrepreneurial spirit of profit minded individuals causing the advent of these low volume production gins. On the other hand, maybe it's the tree huggers' attempt to make everything a back to nature experience. I sincerely doubt that Roundhouse will ever make an appearance in Texas as the State Alcohol Beverage Commission has a tight grip on what is approved for sale in the state. It's sorta like it takes lobbying, payoffs or Illinois selling of a Senate seat to get a new brand on the approved list. Nonetheless, it's nice to hear about someone who's trying to reinvent the wheel. the old codger (whose Dad worked for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board after Prohibition and I had the chance to taste a sample of a carefully preserved bottled bathtub gin......daaaym, I hope Roundhouse tastes better than that stuff did) Last Edited By: the old codger 01/27/09 19:05:05. People continue to make their own versions of all kinds of products; cars, wine, cheese, homes, bycycles--it's endless. So many don't realize that letting somebody do the same ol' same is always better than repeating last month and last year, rolling over, and going back to sleep. What could be better than a 1938 Chrysler and Schlitz? It makes it so easy to summon memories. Who could forget--it looks just like today! I get up each day with the idea of trying new things. It seems to be the definition of madness. Though not always finding something better than "the regular", I always have something interesting. Pity me! It's not really about reinventing the wheel. It's about musing over all the myriad variations on the color wheel, including hat good ol', never-been-bettered, why bother to change it--GRAY! -- Gerry
